TRAVELING TRUNKS

History on the Move 1, 2 & 3

MOSTHistory features two trunks that will unlock the world historic South Texas to your students. Each trunk contains fascinating replicas of ancient artifacts, intriguing stories, and educational activities inspired by different time periods of South Texas.

    • From the Indians of South Texas trunk, your students will learn about the culture and habits of the Native Americans that called South Texas their home. The trunk includes models of artifacts, books, animal skins, drawings, maps, an original game called “Mitote,” research material and children’s literature. Now your students can view life through the eyes of the same Native Americans they see on exhibit.
    • With the Roots-Deep In the Heart of Texas trunk, students can explore their ancestry and the diversity of cultures found in Texas. Inside they will find clothing, a quilt, a create-a-sticker machine, antique household items, a classroom set of family trees that they can complete and keep, reading materials for family research, an original audio recording of, “Taza de Memorias,” and other children’s literature.
    • Your students will enjoy learning about the Vaqueros that made South Texas their home, as seen on exhibit at the Museum of South Texas History. This trunk contains replicas of artifacts, books, reading materials for research, lessons on cowboys, and some children’s literature too. Teachers wishing to check out these materials for use in the classroom may contact the museum at (956) 383-6911 or lpena@mosthistory.org.
